Wheel counter / LINE OUT does not work

When line counter does not work at all here is how to check the settings and wheel sensors.

There are several settings in the menu sytem E43 that need's to be adjusted before BJ5000 Ex can calculate the LINE OUT. But before "adjusting" we also want to know if the wheel sensor works.

  • First set DRAG to 0%. This will make the wheel move freely.

  • Enter the Menu [E43] (WHEEL - COUNTER). The first picture is length unit. Select the one you want. Meter/Fathoms or Feets.

  • Now press Prog button to [E43P] and choose what way the wheel shall turn. Normal or Reverse. This must be selected before winding on the fishing line, else the motor will start "backwards" compared to the line.

  • Press Prog button again to [E43PP] This is the wheel sensor page and it will show the status of the two wheel sensors A and B. The sensors are located on the electronic board called KEX, and they senses when magnets in the wheel when passed by. The wheel contains 1-6 magnets. 3 is mostly used.

Grab the wheel and look at the A and B signals. They show "1" when a magnet is not present, and a "0" when the magnet is pressent. Move the wheel so both A and B shows "1". This is an idle possition. Now move the wheel slowly. Rotation at one way, the signals should follow the pattern 11-01-00-10-11 for a complete pulse. The other way should follow the pattern 11-10-00-01-11 before a pulse is completed. In the display the amount of pulses ca be read. Increasing and decreasing depending on wheel movement.

If both signals is affected at exactly same possition of the wheel rotation, or that A or B, or both always shows "0" the MEX card is problaby damaged. Please change it.
If A and B always shows "1" the problem might still be the MEX card. But it can also depend on that the wheel has no magnets mounted, or that the magnets are faced wrong way.
